Cherokee Mamma

Cherokee Mamma

This piece was painted in both oils and acrylics but I used my palette knife to paint it. It represents my mother and what I saw as a young child when looking up at her from the bathroom sink. I’d watch her comb her hair and put on her makeup. My great, great grandmother was from the Cherokee Indian tribe and my mother was fortunate enough to get her high cheek bones. She also had long dark hair which she often wore in a braid.
